Miss Fordyce

James Watson (1740–1790) after Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723–1792)
Miss Fordyce
ca. 1763
Mezzotint

Miss Fordyce is said to have been the daughter of George Fordyce, Provost of Aberdeen. The painting on which this mezzotint is based was paid for by a Mr. Radcliffe, suggesting that Miss Fordyce may have been his mistress. She apparently later married a Mr. Greenwood, as the painting was exhibited under the title “Mrs. Greenwood” at the British Institution in 1813.
